Confidence

I remember when I started working for a TV production company in 2017, it was something I’ve always wanted to do, but it quickly turned into one of my least favourite work experiences, and the cause of that was my lack of self-confidence.

I had been unemployed for a while prior to me landing the internship, and I was intimidated by the younger people who were more experienced than I was.

There were times where I doubted my abilities, in turn I was always anxious and stressed whenever I had to a task.

Lessons Learned:

Lack of belief in ourselves will prevent and stop us from reaching our full potential and it will keep us timid.

A lack of confidence makes us seek approval and affirmation from others because we’re unsure of ourselves, so we’ll need others to affirm our actions and decisions.

We stop ourselves from growing because we’re not confident enough to take risks and chances, we’re always doubting our decisions, thoughts and ideas.

When we believe the doubt, we end up doing nothing because we’re unsure of ourselves, which will eventually amount to a wasted life.

How then do we grow our confidence?

It’s often said that self-confidence is the sense that we can master something.

Mastering something speaks of having or showing great skill or proficiency and acquiring complete knowledge or skill in a subject or technique.

Looking back at my story, I realised that the power of believing in yourself and your abilities plays a huge role, but the more we empower ourselves with the relevant knowledge and skills in our chosen fields, the more we’ll become better at what we do, and the more we become better at what we do, the more our confidence grows and in the process, we begin to add value wherever we are.
